UNIOSUN Shuts Campus After Student’s Death

The management of Osun State University (UNIOSUN) has announced the indefinite closure of its Ofatedo College of Law campus following the death of a 400-level Criminology and Security Studies student, Miss Grace Osunlakin.

The institution’s Public Relations Officer, Ademola Adesoji, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday. While the statement did not reveal the cause of the student’s death, it noted that the circumstances surrounding the incident necessitated the closure of the campus.
Describing the loss as deeply painful, the university extended its condolences to the family of Miss Osunlakin, who reportedly died on Wednesday, June 24, 2026.
According to the statement, the decision to shut the campus indefinitely was reached after careful consideration of the situation. The closure is intended to allow emotions among students to settle while enabling the university to carry out a comprehensive assessment of healthcare facilities, medical personnel, and water supply systems at the Ifetedo Campus.
The university said the measure is part of broader efforts to address longstanding challenges affecting the campus and to ensure the safety, welfare, and well-being of students and staff.
“We reassure members of the public that we remain committed to conducting a thorough review of the situation and implementing necessary measures to prevent a recurrence.
“May Almighty God grant the family of the deceased, the students, and the entire University community the strength to bear this irreparable loss,” the statement added.
The university also appealed to students, parents, and other stakeholders to remain calm and cooperate with the management as efforts continue to resolve the issues and restore normal academic activities.
