ADC Demands Full Breakdown of ₦12.8tn Budget Allocation

The Media Office of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has faulted the response of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to its concerns over the ₦12.

8 trillion Service-Wide Vote (SWV) captured in the 2026 Appropriation Act, describing the ruling party’s reaction as emotional and lacking substance.
In a statement signed by Olusola Sanni, Strategic Media Associate to Atiku Abubakar, the office said the APC, through its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, failed to address the central issue surrounding the sharp increase in the Service-Wide Vote from ₦638.34 billion in 2024 to more than ₦12.8 trillion in 2026—an increase of about 1,918 per cent. It argued that while the Service-Wide Vote is a legitimate budgetary instrument, Nigerians deserve an explanation for what it described as an unprecedented increase in the allocation.
The statement further expressed concern over what it called the lack of transparency surrounding the allocation, alleging that significant portions of the funds are linked to projects that are either vaguely described or not identified at all. According to the media office, a contingency fund without clear details, accountability and transparency raises legitimate concerns about possible misuse of public funds.
The Atiku Media Office also accused the APC of avoiding the issues by resorting to personal attacks instead of providing answers. It maintained that previous reports of duplicated budget provisions, opaque project allocations and other questionable appropriations have weakened public confidence in the federal budget process. The office therefore called on the Tinubu administration to publish a comprehensive breakdown of the ₦12.8 trillion Service-Wide Vote, including all projects, beneficiaries, implementing agencies and the legal basis for each expenditure, insisting that Nigerians deserve full accountability for public funds.
