Benue Police Appoint DSP Peter Aondongu as New Spokesperson

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has approved the appointment of DSP Orchia Peter Aondongu as the new Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Benue State Police Command.

The appointment was announced in a statement issued on by the outgoing Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Cletus Nwadiogbu.

According to the statement, DSP Aondongu was commissioned as an Assistant Superintendent of Police on December 19, 2019, after completing a five-year cadet training programme at the Nigerian Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting.

Since joining the Nigeria Police Force, he has served in several operational and administrative roles, including at ‘B’ Division and ‘C’ Division in Lafia, the Commissioner of Police Crack Squad at the Nasarawa State Headquarters, Kadarko Division, Obi Division, and as Deputy Police Public Relations Officer of the Benue State Command. Before his new appointment, he served as the Divisional Police Officer of ‘C’ Division, North Bank, Makurdi.

The new police spokesperson has also participated in professional training, including the Mobile Police Force Combat Operations Course at Ila-Orangun, as well as media and public relations capacity-building programmes organised by development partners and other stakeholders.

Congratulating the new PPRO, the Commissioner expressed confidence in Aondongu’s ability to coordinate the Command’s public communication, strengthen relations with the media, and enhance public trust through timely, accurate and professional dissemination of information.

The Command also called on members of the public and the media to sustain their cooperation with the police as it continues to promote transparency, accountability and effective service delivery.
