Boys’ Brigade Charges Benue Youth to Choose Discipline Over Crime

Members of the Boys’ Brigade Nigeria have been encouraged to uphold the values of humility, discipline, self-respect and dedication as essential qualities for becoming responsible citizens and future leaders.

The Chairman of Kwande Local Government Area and Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Benue State, Mr. Vitalis Neji, gave the advice while declaring open the 18th Annual General Conference of the Boys’ Brigade Nigeria, Benue High-Level Battalion Council, held at the 96th Benue Company, NKST Church, Idye, Makurdi.
Neji praised the Boys’ Brigade for its outstanding contribution to youth development, noting that the organisation has produced many responsible adults now serving in the military, paramilitary and other public institutions. He reaffirmed the Benue State Government’s commitment to supporting the organisation, stressing that the administration of Governor Hyacinth Alia remains focused on youth development and welfare. He also donated to the Battalion’s skills acquisition programme and urged members to remain committed to the guidance of their officers in pursuit of their aspirations. He further advised young people across the state to avoid acts capable of ruining their future and to become positive contributors to society.
Also speaking, the Comptroller of Immigration, Benue State Command, Grace Nkwanwung, commended the officers and boys for their impressive performance during the parade inspection and encouraged them to maintain the standard. She pledged the continued support of the Nigeria Immigration Service by providing opportunities for qualified Boys’ Brigade members during recruitment exercises and called for stronger collaboration between the Battalion leadership and the command.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Benue High-Level Battalion Council, Elder Joseph Kwaghdega, reaffirmed the council’s commitment to moulding young people through spiritual, physical, educational and emotional development. He disclosed that the council had launched a skills acquisition programme to equip members with vocational skills for self-reliance and employment. He appealed to the Benue State Government and security agencies to give qualified Boys’ Brigade members consideration during recruitment, describing it as a practical way of empowering youths and improving their socio-economic well-being. He added that the Boys’ Brigade, as a Christian uniformed youth organisation, remains committed to raising disciplined and responsible children who can contribute meaningfully to society.
In her remarks, the Chairman of the Council of Battalion Patrons, Mrs. Jane Mlumun Chia Titor, appreciated the guests for their support and urged members to stay away from social vices that could derail their ambitions. She also assured members of the patrons’ continued commitment to supporting the activities and growth of the Battalion.
