FCT Police Arraign Four Officers Over Alleged ₦52,000 Extortion

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has commenced disciplinary proceedings against four police officers accused of extorting ₦52,000 from the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu (SAN).
The officers—ASP Clement Ehigala, ASP Sunday Okpe, Inspector Samuel Onoja and Sergeant Yakubu Emmanuel—have been directed to face an orderly room trial on the orders of the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, Ahmed Sanusi.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the officers allegedly abandoned their assigned duty posts and carried out an unauthorised traffic enforcement operation at Banex Plaza Junction in Wuse II on July 11, 2026.
The command said the officers stopped a motorist for an alleged traffic violation and extorted ₦52,000 from him. The victim was later identified as the ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu (SAN).
The statement explained that following the complaint, the Commissioner of Police ordered the immediate arrest of the four officers and directed that they face an orderly room trial for abandoning their lawful duty posts, conducting unauthorised traffic enforcement, and allegedly engaging in extortion.
Adeh noted that disciplinary proceedings have already commenced in line with established police regulations, stressing that the command remains committed to professionalism, accountability and zero tolerance for misconduct by its personnel.
The FCT Police Command reiterated that officers found guilty of misconduct will face appropriate sanctions in accordance with existing police regulations.
