Reps to Push Reserved Seats for PWDs After Women’s Bill

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr. Abbas Tajudeen, says the House will pursue reserved parliamentary seats for persons with disabilities after concluding work on the proposed constitutional amendment creating special seats for women.

He made the announcement in Abuja while receiving a delegation from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
Dr. Abbas said the initiative is aimed at improving the political representation of persons with disabilities, whom he described as a neglected group across Nigeria and Africa.
The leader of the UNDP delegation, Ahunna Eziakonwa, commended Dr. Abbas for championing women’s political inclusion, describing the proposed reserved seats as a key democratic and developmental reform.
Also speaking, the Resident Representative of the UNDP in Nigeria, Elsie Attafuah, praised the Speaker’s leadership on inclusive governance and legislative reforms.
