Senate Applauds Tinubu, Security Forces for Oyo Hostages’ Rescue

The Senate has commended President Bola Tinubu, the Service Chiefs and all security agencies for their decisive roles and strategic efforts that led to the successful rescue of students and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The upper chamber also paid tribute to security personnel who lost their lives during the rescue operation. It urged the Federal Government to ensure the prompt payment of statutory death benefits, insurance claims and other entitlements to the families of the fallen officers.
The commendation followed a motion presented by the Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, who recalled that on May 15, heavily armed terrorists attacked educational institutions in Oriire Local Government Area, abducting 39 schoolchildren and seven teachers, leaving their families and the nation in distress.
Bamidele said the successful rescue operation came at a significant cost, with members of the Nigerian Armed Forces and the Nigeria Police displaying exceptional courage, patriotism and professionalism in confronting the terrorists. He noted with regret that one of the abducted teachers died while in captivity, adding that the rescue of the remaining victims without further loss of life was a remarkable achievement deserving of national recognition.
