Smoke, Flames Rock Federal Mortgage Bank Headquarters

The sky over Central Abuja was filled with thick black smoke on Saturday after a fire broke out at the headquarters of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria, located opposite the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The blaze reportedly started on the fourth floor before rapidly spreading across the upper section of the building, triggering panic among staff and passersby.

As flames spread through the top floors, employees hurried down stairwells to safety while residents, motorists and nearby workers gathered outside in shock. Eyewitness Praises Chukwu, who shared photos from the scene on Facebook, said firefighters were battling the inferno, although the fire continued to spread across the upper floor.
Fire trucks responded from different locations as emergency personnel deployed hoses in an effort to contain the blaze. Thick smoke rose above the building, attracting large crowds, while concerns grew over possible casualties and the safety of workers inside. Important documents and mortgage records were believed to be at risk as the fire raged.
As of the time this report was filed, authorities had not released any official casualty figures, and the cause of the fire remained unknown. The full extent of the damage to the headquarters of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria had yet to be determined, while firefighters continued efforts to completely extinguish the flames. No official statement had been issued by the authorities.
