The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has promised to facilitate the completion of the abandoned Gwagwalada Mini-Stadium to create more sporting opportunities for youths in the area.

He also directed the FCTA Agriculture and Rural Development Secretariat to work with the Executive Chairman of Gwagwalada Area Council, Hon. Kassim Mohammed, to ensure the immediate relocation of the local abattoir.

Wike made the commitments during a town hall meeting with Rainbow Coalition stakeholders at the newly constructed Gwagwalada Civic Centre, which he also commissioned.

The Minister explained that completing the mini-stadium would provide opportunities for young people to develop their sporting talents. He, however, warned the Mandate Secretary for Agriculture, Ango Abdullahi, that failure to implement the directive on the abattoir’s relocation could cost him his job.

Wike also commended Hon. Kassim Mohammed for completing the Civic Centre and highlighted ongoing infrastructure projects in Gwagwalada, including the road linking the area to Zuba, which is expected to be completed by December 2026.

On politics, the Minister urged residents to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid and APC candidates under the FCT Rainbow Coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He also criticised politicians opposing the coalition, describing them as selfish and lacking the capacity to promote unity.

In his response, Hon. Kassim Mohammed reaffirmed his commitment to the coalition and expressed confidence in the victory of President Tinubu and other APC candidates in Gwagwalada.
Women and youth representatives, Hon. Hajara Abdullahi and Comrade Inuwa Gusau, respectively, also pledged their support for the coalition.
