2027 Polls: Reps Demand INEC Briefing on BVAS, PVCs, Voter Registration
The House of Representatives is set to invite the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to brief its Committee on Electoral Matters on preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The briefing, scheduled to take place within seven legislative days, will cover Continuous Voter Registration, Permanent Voter Card (PVC) management, election logistics, the deployment of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), and the INEC Results Viewing Portal (IReV).
The resolution followed the adoption of a motion sponsored by the member representing Darazo/Ganjuwa Federal Constituency of Bauchi State, Mansur Soro, who called for an early assessment of INEC’s preparedness for credible elections, including personnel training and electoral security.
Leading the debate, Soro said the recently concluded Ekiti State governorship election offered useful lessons for the 2027 polls.

He highlighted challenges at voter registration centres, including inadequate equipment, staff shortages, network failures and prolonged waiting times.
He warned that these difficulties could restrict access to voter registration, particularly for first-time voters, rural residents, persons with disabilities, students and workers, if they were not addressed early.

The committee is also expected to receive a comprehensive report on voter registration, PVC production and distribution, election technology and logistics, electoral risk assessment, and budget implementation.
