Sultan of Sokoto Declares Friday, March 20, as Eid-el-Fitr Day

His Eminence, the Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has declared Friday, March 20, as the first day of Shawwal 1447AH, marking the end of this year’s Ramadan fasting.

In a statement signed by the Chairman, Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Sultanate Council Sokoto, Sambo Wali Junaidu, the Sultanate Council, in conjunction with the National Moon Sighting Committee, said it did not receive any report confirming the sighting of the new crescent of Shawwal on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, which corresponds to the 29th of Ramadan 1447AH.
The statement further explained that Friday, March 20, equivalent to the 1st of Shawwal, will be observed as the Eid-el-Fitr prayer and celebration day.
His Eminence the Sultan felicitated with Nigerian Muslims and wished them Allah’s guidance and blessings.
