INEC Opens Mega CVR Centre in Abuja Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says the establishment of a Mega Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) Centre in Garki, Abuja, is aimed at expanding access to voter registration and strengthening participatory democracy.

National Commissioner supervising the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mallam Mohammed Haruna, disclosed this while addressing journalists at the commencement of the exercise. He explained that the third and final phase of the CVR exercise would provide ample opportunity for eligible residents to register or update their voter records ahead of the 2027 general election.
According to the National Commissioner, the CVR exercise was suspended in October 2025 to facilitate preparations for the February FCT Area Council election.
Mallam Mohammed Haruna stated that the two-week exercise would also reduce the stress associated with accessing registration centres and ensure that no eligible Nigerian is denied the opportunity to register because of distance or congestion.
He urged all eligible Nigerians not to wait until the last minute but to take advantage of the extended registration period and participate in choosing those who govern.
Mallam Mohammed Haruna also commended YIAGA Africa and the European Union for partnering with INEC to strengthen democratic governance in the country.
The Programme Officer of YIAGA Africa, Yetunde Bakare, said the organisation was ready to take the voter registration campaign to communities across the FCT to increase the number of registered voters ahead of next year’s general election.
She, however, appealed to young people to use their numerical strength to positively influence the voting pattern in the 2027 general election.
