Oyo kidnapping survivor reveals why abductors executed two captives.

The Principal of Community High School, Esiele, Oyo State, Mrs. Rachael Alamu, has revealed that the kidnappers who held her, other teachers and pupils captive for 56 days killed two of their fellow captives in an attempt to pressure the government into meeting their demands.

Speaking on Monday during the official handover of the rescued victims to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde by the Nigerian Army, Alamu described their captivity as a painful and terrifying experience marked by fear, uncertainty and repeated threats to their lives. She recalled that what began as a normal Friday on May 15 turned into a nightmare that kept them in the bush for nearly two months.
According to her, the kidnappers constantly subjected the victims to psychological torture, repeatedly claiming that the government had abandoned them and was no longer interested in securing their freedom. Despite the threats, she said they held on to hope, encouraged by the belief that Nigerians were praying for their safe return. She disclosed that the abductors killed Mr. Michael on the second day of their captivity and Deacon on the first Sunday in June, believing the killings would force the authorities to meet their demands.
Alamu said it was only after they regained their freedom that they realised many Nigerians had been following their ordeal and praying for them. While noting that the victims still bear emotional scars, she expressed confidence that time would bring healing. She also thanked President Bola Tinubu, Governor Seyi Makinde, the Nigerian Army, other security agencies and Nigerians for their prayers and support throughout the 56-day ordeal. The victims were abducted on May 15 after armed bandits attacked Community High School, Ahoro-Esiele, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, and LA Primary School in Ogbomoso, all in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
