From being sidelined for P-Square to becoming a music icon, Flavour shares his journey.
Nigerian highlife star Chinedu Okoli, popularly known as Flavour, has opened up about one of the toughest moments in the early stages of his music career, revealing how he was once asked to stop performing so the now-defunct music duo, P-Square, could take over the stage.
Speaking on the World Wide podcast, Flavour recalled that the incident happened while he was entertaining guests at a nightclub. According to him, the club manager approached him during his performance and instructed him to leave the stage immediately because P-Square had arrived.
The singer said he had no option but to end his performance. He explained that he switched off his microphone and stepped aside as the duo prepared to perform. He remembered the loud cheers from the audience as Paul of P-Square took the microphone and began singing their hit song, Temptation.
Flavour admitted that the crowd’s reaction surprised him, as he wondered why he never received the same level of excitement despite performing similar music at the venue. However, rather than allowing the experience to discourage him, he said it became a source of motivation that pushed him to work harder and strive for greater success.
Reflecting on the experience, the award-winning singer said he chose to turn the disappointment into inspiration, adding that the setback played a significant role in shaping his determination and ultimately contributed to where he is in his career today.
