No car, no luxury, but a bright future: Margaret Idahosa recalls her humble wedding day.

Margaret Idahosa, wife of the Archbishop of the Church of God Mission International, has recalled how she and her husband, Archbishop Benson Idahosa, trekked home after their wedding reception because they had no car.

Margaret said the couple had only a Yamaha 200 motorcycle when they got married and had to borrow a car to attend their church service and reception.

However, she said the owner of the vehicle took it back before the reception ended because he had somewhere to go.

According to Margaret, the reception was held in front of one of her in-laws’ houses. She recalled that the in-law was returning from Lagos and had instructed his wife not to allow a crowd remain in front of the house.

“We hurried things over,” she said.
Margaret said there was no car available when it was time to leave. She recalled that her husband carried her wedding veil while they both walked several houses to their home.
“We both walked or trekked to the house,” she recalled.

She said she shared the experience to encourage young women not to allow their present circumstances to determine their future.

Margaret noted that having a comfortable life today did not mean she had always had access to luxury.
“If I want a limousine to take me to church now, it’s at my beck and call and I will get it, but then, there was none,” she said.

She urged young women to remain focused on their future despite their current challenges, stressing that people should not allow what they have or do not have today to discourage them.

“Your future is bright, your future is great, your future is powerful,” she said.
Margaret also recalled her late husband’s advice about focusing on the future rather than the past.

According to her, he told her that where a person was coming from was already behind them and should not become a source of worry.

She said the important thing was to remain focused on where one was going.
