Senator Monguno Unveils ₦250m Empowerment Scheme for 2,500 Borno North Constituents

The Senator representing Borno North Senatorial District and Chief Whip of the Senate, as well as Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriation, Distinguished Senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno, has launched a ₦250 million Mega Empowerment Programme aimed at boosting grassroots economic growth through skills development and financial assistance.

The programme, which is set to benefit 2,500 constituents, began with the release of ₦125 million to the first batch of 1,250 beneficiaries. Each beneficiary received ₦100,000 as start-up support. According to the organisers, the remaining ₦125 million will be disbursed to another 1,250 beneficiaries in the second batch next week, ensuring fair and inclusive distribution across the constituency.
Prior to the financial disbursement, beneficiaries participated in a four-day intensive training covering various vocational and entrepreneurial skills, including Tie and Dye, Cake Making, Tailoring, Entrepreneurship, Soap Making, Groundnut Cake Production, and Hairdressing. The initiative specifically prioritised youths and women, with the objective of promoting self-reliance, enhancing productivity, and creating sustainable means of livelihood.
Key stakeholders at the event, such as Alhaji Kallah Maina Monguno, Hon. Mohammed (M-Gas), and APC Local Government Chairmen, praised Senator Monguno for his people-oriented leadership. They described the empowerment programme as both timely and impactful, encouraging beneficiaries to utilise the support judiciously as a long-term investment in their personal and economic development.
Speaking on behalf of the organisers, Mr. Suleiman assured participants of the programme’s transparency and sustainability, while urging them to remain focused, disciplined, and committed to their chosen trades. The event attracted a large turnout of political leaders, religious leaders, as well as representatives of youth and women groups, reflecting the programme’s wide acceptance and importance.
In his remarks, Senator Monguno stated that the empowerment initiative is not intended as a one-time intervention but as part of a sustained effort to promote skills acquisition, entrepreneurship, and long-term economic stability. He added that the programme complements the human capital development agenda of Governor Babagana Zulum and aligns with broader efforts to reduce unemployment and promote inclusive economic growth in Borno State.
