Ibrahim’s UN Posting a Boost for Global Peace Efforts – Agbese
The Deputy Spokesperson of the House of Representatives, Philip Agbese, has applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the recent ambassadorial appointments, describing them as well-calculated steps toward strengthening Nigeria’s position on the global stage.
Speaking during an interview in Abuja on Tuesday, Agbese noted that the appointments demonstrate a conscious effort by the administration to revamp Nigeria’s diplomatic footprint and amplify its influence in multilateral engagements worldwide.
The Benue-born legislator, who recently moved from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Labour Party (LP), and is also an active member of the Pan-African Parliament, singled out the nomination of Jimoh Ibrahim as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations for special praise.
According to Agbese, Ibrahim’s extensive background in lawmaking, business, and public service equips him with the capacity to make meaningful contributions to global diplomacy, especially in a period characterised by rising geopolitical tensions and conflicts.
He added that Ibrahim’s role at the United Nations could help promote stability and support peaceful resolutions in volatile regions, including the Middle East and other areas facing persistent unrest.
Agbese stated that the senator’s global exposure and experience make him not only an asset to Nigeria but also to the international community, particularly in advancing dialogue and cooperation over conflict.
He further expressed optimism that Ibrahim would help bridge diplomatic and economic divides between Africa and other regions, ensuring stronger collaboration and clearer representation of Africa’s interests on the world stage.
Dismissing criticisms surrounding the appointment, Agbese maintained that Ibrahim possesses the intellectual strength, diplomatic acumen, and leadership qualities needed to succeed in the role.
He concluded by expressing confidence that the newly appointed envoys would effectively promote Nigeria’s foreign policy goals, boost economic diplomacy, and attract investment into the country. Agbese also urged them to uphold the nation’s image with integrity and called on citizens to support efforts aimed at deepening international partnerships for national development.
