Ogogo’s Health: Herbalist Explains N10m Decision

A traditional medicine practitioner has explained why he rejected a N10 million offer to treat veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, amid reports that the actor is battling stage 4 cancer.

The practitioner said the money was offered by a person based in the United States who wanted him to provide treatment for Ogogo. However, he declined the offer because he did not want to create false hope about what could be achieved at such an advanced stage of the illness.
Speaking during an interview with broadcaster Kola Olootu, the herbal practitioner said money was not enough reason to accept a case when he was not confident about the possible outcome.
He explained that both traditional and orthodox treatments generally have better chances of helping patients when illnesses are detected early. According to him, treatment becomes significantly more difficult once a disease reaches an advanced stage, making intervention at that point more of a trial than something that can guarantee recovery.
The practitioner urged members of the public to take their health seriously by undergoing regular medical tests. He said routine health checks can help detect illnesses early and give patients a better chance of receiving treatment before conditions become severe or difficult to control.
His comments come amid growing public concern over Ogogo’s reported health condition. The actor’s daughters had earlier confirmed that their father is battling stage 4 cancer and appealed to the public for support.
The issue surrounding Ogogo’s treatment also generated controversy after an Islamic cleric identified online as Alihamidtv visited the actor at a Lagos hospital on August 20, 2026.
The cleric reportedly took herbal medicine to the hospital and later spoke publicly about Ogogo’s condition. He said the actor had become very weak and was unable to eat.
“I saw Alhaji Hassan Ogogo yesterday at the hospital; at this junction, he only needs God’s intervention. In fact, he doesn’t even have strength for herbs at the moment; he can’t even eat anymore,” the cleric said.
The disclosure attracted criticism from singer Yinka TNT, who accused the cleric of revealing private information about the actor without the family’s consent.
“You took herbs to someone in the hospital and you came online to reveal it despite the fact that you know it’s not allowed in the hospital. To me, you are using someone’s sickness to advertise your own business. Do you even know what confidentiality is?” the singer wrote.
Yinka TNT also questioned why the cleric disclosed details about Ogogo’s condition when the actor’s daughters had been careful about the information they shared while seeking public assistance.
“The daughters that came out to seek for help from the public didn’t go into full details of their dad’s condition but you came out without seeking the family’s consent to tell the world his condition,” he wrote.
He further questioned whether the cleric had been taught about patient consent during his training in traditional medicine.
“You said you studied traditional medicine; were you not taught what consent is? You were not even supposed to let us know you went to drop herbs. You are only looking for Customers. It’s not fair,” Yinka TNT added.
Ogogo, a respected figure in the Yoruba film industry, was last seen publicly in a video from June 2026, where he appeared at an event with his daughter and exchanged pleasantries with a guest.
