2027 permutations deepen with Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso expected to pick up ADC membership card this week.
Former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is set to formally join the African Democratic Congress on Wednesday, according to strong indications that emerged on Tuesday.
Reliable sources within the ADC disclosed that Kwankwaso is expected to obtain his membership card in his hometown of Kwankwaso, located in Madobi Local Government Area of Kano State.
Kwankwaso, who contested the 2023 presidential election under the New Nigeria Peoples Party, has in recent times hosted prominent ADC figures at his residence in Kano, fueling speculation about his planned defection.
Among notable personalities who visited him is the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
Similarly, Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, also met with Kwankwaso amid reports that he may be considering alignment with the ADC.
Makinde is a leading figure in a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party led by Kabiru Turaki, SAN. The faction has been involved in a prolonged leadership crisis with a rival group loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Efforts to reconcile both camps have yet to yield any meaningful outcome.
Meanwhile, the ADC on Tuesday received the report of its constitution review committee. The document was presented to the party’s National Legal Adviser, Oserheimen Osunbor, on behalf of the National Chairman, David Mark.
In remarks delivered by Osunbor, Mark stressed that the party’s constitution review must reflect present political realities and meet the expectations of its members.
He emphasized the importance of strengthening internal democracy, transparency, and accountability within the party.
“I am encouraged that this review process involved wide consultations across states, zones, and among critical stakeholders. This inclusive approach reaffirms that the ADC belongs to all its members, regardless of status,” Mark stated.
He further assured that the National Working Committee would carefully review the recommendations of the committee.
Kwankwaso’s expected move is widely seen as one that could significantly reshape the opposition landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.
