PDP GUBER- CANDIDATE RAISES ALARM OVER PLOT TO CHANGE CANDIDATURE, UNVEILS RUNNING-MATE IN ADAMAWA
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate in Adamawa State, Chief Caleb Andrew Myebangara, FCA JP, (Shettiman Batta)has raised alarm over an alleged foiled attempt to substitute his name and those of other party candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Chief Caleb disclosed this on Monday during a high-powered stakeholders’ meeting held in Yola, the state capital, which brought together party candidates and executives from the 21 local government areas of the state.
He stated that while the “sinister move” had been successfully thwarted, the party leadership would ensure that all candidates who purchased expression of interest and nomination forms receive adequate support.
“I want to assure all our candidates that we will stand by you. The party leadership, alongside the executives, will work assiduously to expand our frontiers for a formidable victory in the 2027 general elections,” Chief Caleb declared.
The Gubernatorial candidate also expressed confidence in the party’s ongoing efforts to reclaim its legitimacy through constitutional means at the national headquarters in Abuja.
In a significant development at the meeting, Umar Alhaji Abdu was officially unveiled as the party’s Deputy Governorship candidate. Alhaji Abdu, who hails from Fufore Local Government Area in the central senatorial zone, was presented to party faithful alongside other candidates.
In his acceptance speech, the newly unveiled running mate pledged absolute loyalty and support to Chief Caleb and the PDP.
“I thank the gubernatorial candidate and party stakeholders for finding me worthy of this responsibility. Chief Caleb is an honest, fearless, and worthy politician who has stood by the party despite the recent exit of some members. I promise to remain committed to the party’s ideals and work tirelessly for our collective victory,” Alhaji Abdu said.
A major highlight of the event was the official presentation of nomination forms sent by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to all PDP candidates for onward documentation. The candidates included; 3 Senatorial candidates representing the three senatorial zones, 8 House of Representatives candidates and 25 House of Assembly candidates.
Chief Caleb warned the candidates against anti-party activities and emphasized the need for loyalty and discipline among members.
“All your names will be uploaded on the INEC portal. I urge you to work for the PDP from the top down to the ward level,” he said.
The Adamawa State PDP Chairman, Mr. Stephen Heluwa, commended Chief Caleb for his unwavering commitment and resilience in facilitating the party’s progress despite intimidation from various quarters.
“Chief Caleb Andrew Myebangara has been at the forefront of advancing the party’s interests. His courage and determination are commendable,” Heluwa stated.
The Chairman, who expressed delight at the large turnout of stakeholders, called for commitment and unity of purpose among all members.
“Our movement to victory has just begun. I cannot overemphasize the need for loyalty to the party. We must remain united if we are to achieve success in 2027,” he added.
The high-powered session deliberated extensively on issues of unity, reconciliation, and passed a vote of confidence on Chief Caleb Andrew Myebangara. Stakeholders made contributions and strategic considerations on a mobilization framework for the 2027 elections.
The consensus submissions by all candidates included; The need for available financial resources to facilitate the campaign process,Elimination of doubts surrounding litigation threatening the party’s legitimacy,Establishment of formidable party structures down to the grassroots and Expansion of party offices to all ward levels
Chief Caleb used the opportunity to thank the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP, under the leadership of Tanimu Turaki SAN, for deploying constitutional procedures in all the victories recorded both at the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal.
“I assure the NWC that Adamawa State remains a PDP state. We will continue to uphold the party’s constitution and work towards reclaiming our mandate,” he said.
With the unveiling of the running mate, presentation of INEC forms, and renewed commitment to unity and reconciliation, the Adamawa State PDP appears poised for a robust campaign ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party leadership has called on all members to remain steadfast and focused, emphasizing that with collective effort, victory is assured.
