Tinubu Accepts APC Presidential Ticket for 2027 Election
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally accepted the nomination of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 general election, pledging to deepen ongoing reforms and strengthen national development.
Speaking on Sunday at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja, Tinubu described the moment as another milestone in Nigeria’s democratic journey, stressing that the nation’s progress must remain a collective responsibility.
The President recalled emerging as the APC candidate in 2022 before eventually winning the presidential election, expressing appreciation to party leaders, governors, lawmakers, stakeholders, and Nigerians for their continued support.
Tinubu said the focus of his administration remains consolidating reforms already initiated, strengthening economic growth, and building a more stable and prosperous nation.
According to him, the political environment and democratic process have improved over the years through electoral reforms and changing voter expectations. He also highlighted economic reforms introduced by his administration, including new fiscal and tax policies aimed at improving government revenue.
The President stated that the Nigerian Education Loan Fund had disbursed over N282 billion to more than 1.5 million beneficiaries as part of efforts to remove barriers to higher education.
On the power sector, Tinubu said his administration had supplied 2.5 million electricity meters under the Presidential Metering Initiative and established a N4 trillion bond programme to settle debts owed to power generation and gas companies. He added that electricity generation had at times reached 6000 megawatts, representing a significant increase from previous levels.
Tinubu defended the removal of fuel subsidy and reforms in the foreign exchange market, saying the measures were necessary to stabilise the economy. He noted that the naira was improving, foreign reserves were rising, and the country’s economic outlook remained positive despite global economic pressures.
He further listed infrastructure development projects undertaken by the administration, including coastal roads, the Sokoto-Badagry superhighway, airport and seaport upgrades, and reforms in the oil and gas sector aimed at attracting fresh investments.
The President also said social investment programmes had been expanded to support vulnerable citizens, youths, women, and small businesses.
Acknowledging the economic hardship faced by many Nigerians, Tinubu said his administration understood the challenges and remained committed to addressing them through practical policies and reforms.
On insecurity, he assured Nigerians that the government was strengthening the nation’s security architecture through improved intelligence, surveillance, modern equipment, and stronger collaboration with local communities. He also urged the National Assembly to amend the Constitution to allow the creation of state police.
Tinubu maintained that the government would continue working to restore peace and stability across the country while advancing economic growth and democratic development.
He pledged that, if re-elected, his administration would focus on industrialisation, food security, infrastructure expansion, energy security, and job creation.
The President also extended a hand of partnership to political opponents, stressing that democracy thrives on diversity of opinions and constructive engagement.
Tinubu urged Nigerians to remain united and committed to nation-building, describing the 2027 election as an opportunity to strengthen democratic maturity and sustain ongoing reforms.
He concluded by promising to build a more inclusive government that listens to citizens and works in the best interests of all Nigerians.
“Together, and with the help of God Almighty, we shall build a more secure, united, and prosperous Nigeria for generations to come,” he said.
