Gunmen Shoot Osun Accord Party Chairman in Suspected Assassination Attempt

Asimiyu Ajibola, the Chairman of the Accord Party in Osun State, is currently receiving treatment at the University of Osun Teaching Hospital after being shot by unidentified gunmen in Osogbo on Wednesday night.


The Osun State Police Command confirmed the incident on Thursday, describing it as a suspected assassination attempt.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, the attack occurred at about 11:50 p.m. in the MDS area of Osogbo.
The police said two armed men arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire on Ajibola before fleeing the scene.
Following a distress call, security personnel were immediately deployed to the area. Officers evacuated the victim to a medical facility, where medical personnel confirmed that he is stable and responding to treatment.
The command stated that investigations have commenced, with tactical and intelligence teams assigned to track down the attackers. Items recovered from the scene have also been forwarded for forensic analysis.
Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Gotan has ordered a full-scale investigation and directed all relevant units to intensify efforts to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
The police further appealed to residents to remain calm and provide any useful information that could assist the ongoing investigation.
The incident is the latest in a series of security-related cases reported across the South-West region.
On Wednesday in Ibadan, gunmen abducted the sister of a former Minister of Power along with her twin children. Earlier in the week, armed men reportedly attacked a Nigeria Immigration Service passport office in Ogbomoso and escaped with a rifle and other items.
