NNPP Urges INEC To Obey Court Orders
The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to obey court judgments relating to the party’s leadership dispute.
Speaking at a news conference in Abuja, the National Chairman of the party, Dr. Agbo Major, said the NNPP remained committed to the rule of law and democratic principles.
He stated that several courts had delivered judgments on the leadership crisis within the party and expressed concern that INEC had yet to fully act on the decisions.
According to him, the party conducted its congresses and submitted all relevant documents to the electoral commission in line with court directives.
Dr. Major said the party later returned to court to seek enforcement of a judgment after INEC allegedly failed to implement the ruling.
He maintained that respect for court orders is necessary to strengthen democracy and public confidence in the electoral process.
The NNPP chairman also disclosed that the party had engaged civil society groups, diplomatic missions and development partners over the matter.
He said the party’s concerns had been communicated to stakeholders interested in Nigeria’s democratic development.
On the 2027 general election, Dr. Major clarified that the party had not yet settled for a substantive presidential candidate.
He explained that consultations were still ongoing and that the party would make its position known at the appropriate time.
The NNPP chairman also dismissed reports linking the party to any political coalition ahead of the next election.
He said the NNPP would continue to pursue its programmes independently while focusing on preparations for future elections.
Dr. Major called on all institutions and stakeholders to uphold the rule of law and support efforts aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s democracy.
He expressed confidence that the issues surrounding the party’s leadership would be resolved through legal and democratic processes.
