NEMA Strengthens Partnership for Sustainable Disaster Management

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Nigeria’s humanitarian transition through stronger coordination, preparedness and collaboration in line with its statutory mandate.

Director General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, gave the assurance at the opening of the Humanitarian Transition Workshop organised by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) in Abuja.
Mrs. Umar described the workshop as a timely platform for developing a joint action plan aimed at strengthening a nationally led, sustainable and people-centred humanitarian system. She noted that the humanitarian transition aligns with NEMA’s mandate of coordinating disaster management and humanitarian response across the country.
She stressed the Agency’s commitment to providing strategic leadership through effective coordination, adding that the workshop would enable stakeholders to develop practical strategies for strengthening institutions, improving coordination mechanisms and ensuring humanitarian interventions remain responsive to the needs of vulnerable communities.
The NEMA Director General assured participants that the Agency would continue to work closely with the United Nations, State Emergency Management Agencies (SEMAs) and development partners to build a resilient and nationally owned humanitarian system.
