ITF launches 8-week Train-the-Trainers programme to boost Nigeria’s skilled workforce.

The Industrial Training Fund (ITF) has commenced an eight-week Skills Acquisition Training programme for 100 Train-the-Trainers participants in the Federal Capital Territory as part of efforts to reduce Nigeria’s dependence on imported skilled artisans.

Speaking at the opening ceremony in Abuja, the Director-General of ITF, Dr. Afiz Oluwatoyin-Ogun, said the programme, which covers five trade areas, would also be implemented across the country’s six geopolitical zones. He explained that participants would receive internationally recognised certification upon completion of the intensive training, adding that globally certified experts had been engaged to deliver the programme and improve the standard of artisan practice in Nigeria.
Dr. Oluwatoyin-Ogun noted that the initiative aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, particularly in the area of upgrading and empowering Nigerian artisans. He added that ITF is already engaging financial institutions and relevant agencies to provide funding support that will enable beneficiaries to become self-reliant after completing the programme. He also assured participants that accommodation, feeding and allowances had been provided throughout the eight-week training period and urged them to make the most of the opportunity.
In his remarks, the Lead Consultant for the programme, Mr. Samson Adeosun, said participants would receive training in industrial painting, floor tiling, carpentry, plumbing and bricklaying. He described vocational and skills development as critical to job creation, wealth generation and economic growth, noting that international experts had been engaged to ensure global best practices throughout the programme.
Speaking on behalf of the participants, Mr. Muktar Oloriegbe commended ITF for the initiative, saying it would help reduce unemployment and poverty while strengthening the skills of Nigerian artisans. He also called for more innovative programmes to enhance artisans’ capacity, promote industrialisation and accelerate national economic development.
